Jose Mourinho has suggested Chelsea could call time on their bid to sign John Stones from Everton after growing frustrated by their pursuit of the England defender.
The Blues have seen two bids – one worth £20 million and another worth £28m – for the 21-year-old rejected in recent weeks, with Chelsea’s desire to sign the England international provoking a hostile reaction from Everton boss Roberto Martinez.
Thegoalmac understands that Stones is keen to leave Everton to move to Stamford Bridge, but Mourinho has now suggested that he may look for alternatives to the centre-back after growing weary of the saga.
“The market sometimes has no rules,” he told reporters.
“We, as Chelsea, we make our own rules.
“To make our own rules is to evaluate the players, and to know the players’ value, and to know when we have to stop and turn to another side, and think in another option.”
Stones made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees last season, scoring once.
