Inter centre-back Nemanja Vidic has undergone surgery for a slipped disc, and could reportedly be out for three to six months.
Vidic, 33, joined the Nerazzurri after his Manchester United contract expired in 2014 having won five Premier League titles and the Champions League at Old Trafford.
The former Serbia international underwent surgery in Pavia on Wednesday morning, with Sky and Corriere dello Sport previously reporting that the centre-back could be out for the rest of 2015 as a result.
A statement from Inter's official Twitter account on Wednesday read: "Nemanja Vidic underwent successful surgery for a slipped disc today. The operation was performed by professors Fornari and Volpi."
Vidic had been linked with an exit from the San Siro this summer with Everton making an enquiry in July, but his agent Silvano Martina told Italian website Tuttomercatoweb.com that the player will first regain his fitness before considering his future.
"Vidic has a strong physique and will recover quickly," Martina said. "I haven’t heard from anyone and quite frankly I wouldn’t know what to say. He has another two years on his contract, so first he’ll get fit again and then we’ll see.
"Inter have certainly always had the utmost respect for the player. When the time comes, we’ll discuss the future. The important thing now is to heal. I think he’s a great football player and still has many years ahead of him."
